Molten Magic in Venice: Blown Glass Art Workshop

I have a friend who was fortunate enough to have a course in blowing glass at her university, where she created these beautiful vases, cups, and even a charming little pelican. I vividly recall seeing her creations and asking her where she had bought them.

To my surprise, she revealed that she made them herself, leaving me pondering how someone could conjure such colorful orbs. I couldn’t help but wonder about the intricate process. I looked into it to reveal that they basically forge these art pieces like they are forming a katana from molten heat.

I immediately expressed to my friend that she needed to teach me how to do this. However, I realized that not many people keep a 1900-degree furnace at home. This past week, I have been looking at many different artists in Venice area, and many were spectacular, but one really caught my eye—John Mooney at Moonlight Glass.

My enthusiasm to explore glassblowing has now only expanded—not only to grow my knickknack collection that began during my childhood visits to Monterey Bay Aquarium but also because I found myself captivated by the artistry of John Mooney. I mean; look at the piece above this! How?!

For fellow enthusiasts who share my passion for both playing with fire and creating art, the good news is that John Mooney offers private classes!
